We stayed in Waterscapes KTDC Backwater Resort during our 10 days trip in Kerala. I had booked through KTDC website. The booking process was smooth, I got a confirmation email after paying online.

I was traveling with my parents and we reached in resort by afternoon. The reception area was spacious and clean but decorated was very basic. The girls at the reception were dressed in traditional Kerala style sarees and they received us with a smile. Check in process was fast, I filled our details in a register and they took a photocopy of our ID cards. All done.

They have 40 rooms in 3 categories .i.e. Superior lake view, lake view rooms and canal view rooms. We stayed in a cottage by the canal. Cottage on cnal in Waterscapes KTDC Backwater Resort

All cottages were made on stilts and there was a balcony in front of every room, where we sat and enjoyed our morning tea. As cottages were made on the stilts, there was enough space under it and they have a hammock under every cottage. We had a good view of the surrounding area from our balcony.

Cottages were made of wood and have enough space for 3 people. The bed was simple but clean and comfortable for good sleep. The fan and AC were working properly.

The bathroom was medium in size but clean, the tiles on walls were designed interestingly. There were toiletries and clean towels, though they can work better on maintenance of tiles of the bathroom. The tea/coffee maker was working properly and we got sufficient stock for 3 people.

We spent some time in our room, we decided to explore the area of the resort. There stone pathways for walking and small bridges were made to cross the little canals inside the resort. Walking area in Waterscapes KTDC Backwater Resort

The whole area was lush green with lots of small & big trees. The swimming pool was at the edge of backwater and it gave the impression of an infinity pool. It was our favorite place to watch the sunset in backwaters of Vembanad Lake, we really enjoyed our evening relaxing around swimming pool.

The restaurant is also on stilts over the water of Vembanad Lake. The access to the restaurant is through the metallic grill and I can see water running under it, really interesting concept.

They have only buffet dinner but as my parents don’t want to have a full meal at night so resort served them ala carte. We have to select dishes from buffet menu. There was nothing spectacular about food but it tasted fine and fresh.

For room service, they have a limited menu but service was prompt.

Location of the resort is big plus point because it is on the bank of Vembanad Lake inside the bird sanctuary.

The resort is lush green and there are water canals passing every where which add to the beauty of resort but due to this there were lots of mosquitoes and at times it was a big nuisance when we were sitting outdoors. Carry a strong mosquito repellant spray.

The staff was helpful and efficient though some of them don’t understand English or Hindi, anyhow we managed to explain in sign language by using some common words.

The resort also organizes the boat ride on paid basis. There was message and ayurvedic center in the resort.

Overall it was good experience staying in Waterscapes KTDC Backwater Resort and I would recommend it for relaxing.

  1. What a pretty and peaceful spot. I wondered about mosquitoes from the lush greenery in the photos! We always travel with several types of mosquito repellent – like bug bands and insect repellent clothing.
