Here is my Kerala itinerary. We spent 10 days and visited many interesting places but I feel there are many more places, which I missed or in some places, we spend very less time. We traveled from Delhi to Cochin by air and then we hired a cab for the complete trip as I was traveling with my parents. Tips when traveling with elderly parents
If you are on the budget then trains and buses have good connectivity to all parts except for Munnar, where limited numbers of buses ply everyday.
Day 1
Delhi to Cochin morning flight
From Cochin airport to Guruvayur by car through toll highway
Evening darshan in temple

Day 2
Early morning darshan in temple
Visit Statues of Mahaprabhu and Guruyaur Kesavan near temple Guruvayur & Cochin – Kerala #1
Breakfast in local restaurant
Visit Punnathurkotta Elephant sanctuary
Drive to Cochin via inner roads instead of the main highway
Check in hotel
Roam around in surrounding local areas
See artists doing make up for Kathakali dance and followed by performance Kathakali Dancers
Dinner in local restaurant run by family
Day 3

Places to visit – Mattancherry Dutch Palace, The Jewish Synagogue, St. Francis Church, operation of Chinese fishing nets
See local market in old part of Cochin
Overnight in Cochin
Day 4
After breakfast drive to Munnar (130km -6hrs)
See waterfalls on the way
See surrounding areas and tea garden around resort
Overnight in Munnar
Day 5
Breakfast in resort
Sightseeing day
Places of visit – Mattupetty dam, Eravikulam National Park, Echo point, Tea Plantations, shopping in the local market, Waterfalls etc. Munnar – The Tea Town of Kerala

Day 6
Drive to Thekkady (110km – 4hrs)
Check in hotel
Visit Elephant junction for elephant ride, visit local market and Ayurveda massage
Overnight in resort inside Periyar wildlife sanctuary
Day 7
Visit wildlife sanctuary and early morning boating in Periyar Lake
Breakfast in resort
Stop at spice plantation on the way Thekkady, Periyar, Kumarakom -Jewels of Kerala
Drive to Kumarakom (140km – 4&1/2hrs)
Visit Driftwood museum and temple
Check in resort by backwater
Relax in resort and boating in backwaters
Overnight in Kumarakom
Day 8
Visit Bird Sanctuary
Breakfast in resort
Drive to Trivandrum (180km – 4&1/2 hrs)
Visit Kovalam beach and local market
Overnight in Trivandrum
Day 9
Breakfast in hotel
Sightseeing day
Places of visit – Napaier Museum, Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Sri Chitra Art Gallery, Veli Tourist Village, market etc. Kovalam beach & Trivandrum – The Capital of Kerala

We drove to Kanyakumari but Trivandrum has an airport, so it’s better to take the return flight from here instead of returning to Cochin which usually all travel packages propose.
Planning kerla this year in september.
Visit around end September or beginning October. According to me it’s one of the best time to visit. Western ghats are superbly green.
