Ladakh itinerary – Land of High Passes

Sharing is caring!

My Ladakh Trip was one of the best trip. I had followed below itinerary when I traveled to Ladakh by air. It was a relaxed tour in comparison to what people usually do. I have seen many beautiful places.  I feel that if time permit, do add 1 more day and visit Tsomoriri Lake.

How to travel:

I traveled by air as it was my solo trip. I took Flight from Delhi to Leh, it’s 1.30 Hour flight.

By Air : There are direct flights from Delhi and Chandigarh.

By Road : One can go by car.   (OR)
Buses operated by HPTDC starts from Delhi ISBT goes via Chandigarh, Kullu/Manali and stops for a night halt at Keylong, arriving at Leh in evening (Travel time approx 52-53 hours). There are direct luxury buses from Manali to Leh also. These buses run in summer months only (Between May to August via Rohtang Pass).
By Road, it is advisable to go via Manali and return via Srinagar. While going through Srinagar, it will be nicer to explore some of these beautiful places in Kashmir.

IMPORTANT POINTS FOR LADAKH TRIP –

***** If you are traveling on your own then you can hire a bike from Leh.
***** If on a budget then you can roam around in the market and find notice (Which traveler paste) outside shops. You can contact people on the phone number given on these and share the ride with them. It will cut your travel cost to Nubra Valley or Pangong lake. This requires you to keep extra days in hand. You can also paste these and other people can contact you.
***** At Pangong lake, you can stay in home-stays to cut the cost.
***** Stay hydrated. Drink lots of fluids. Acclimatization causes fluid loss, so we suggest you drink at least 4 of water per day.
***** Avoid tobacco, alcohol, sleeping pills and other depressant drugs.
***** Eat light. Go for low-fat food high on carbohydrates food.
***** Pack Windcheaters, thermals, gloves, a woolen cap, a muffler handy and always dress in layers. Good walking shoes as in most of the Monasteries you have to climb lots of stairs. Sunscreen and Sunglasses are important as it is high altitude, so the sun is very harsh during the day.
***** Carry basic medical kit of medicines.
***** Try to carry enough cash for your trip because even in normal scenario (Before demonetization), sometimes ATM’s have long queues in peak summer season as there are limited number of ATMs. So why waste time standing in queues.
