Shaam-e-Sarhad Village Resort Kutch Gujarat

Shaam-e-Sarhad Village Resort Kutch is in Hodka village near the Great Rann of Kutch. It is 65 Km from Bhuj and driving time is 1 hour 15 minutes.

I had booked with resort by sending an email and made 100% advance payment by cheque. They confirmed booking after receipt of full payment by cheque or they also accept Demand Draft. It is the old fashioned style of payment but that’s how they work. Shaam-E-Sarhad is a small organization working under the initiative of Endogenous Tourism Project/Rural Tourism Scheme. I traveled with a friend and we reached around 9.00 AM. They have a Bhunga available so we checked in early, they sent our luggage to our hut. I had already sent our ID proofs by email. We made entry into the register to confirm our arrival. The whole process was smooth. The reception was semi open but hand paintings on walls and decorated in traditional style. The sitting area around reception was decorated in colorful cloths and floor as well walls were painted with mud. It was rustic looking.

The resort is a small eco-friendly property with 4 Bhungas, 6 mud tents, and 2 family cottages. The maximum material used for making is eco-friendly and they have decorated it with local material. Technically it is in Hodka village but little away from the main population of Village. There is a mud boundary wall around the resort for privacy and to restrict the entry of grazing animals. The area was very peaceful and there was no noise issue.

We stayed in Bunga hut. it was high roofed and spacious. Flooring was done with mud mixed with cow dung in old village style and it was clean. Washroom and bathing area is combined but not attached with the room. There was 5 meters open space between room and bathroom but this open space was covered with 6-7 feet mud wall. This area we used for sitting during our stay.

A wall of the bathroom was made of transparent glass and facing mud wall of covered area. It was a spacious and clean bathroom with modern facilities. Bathroom Shaam-e-Sarhad Village Resort Kutch Gujarat

The dining area was mostly semi open and colorfully decorated like other areas. For sitting they have a table and chairs arrangement. The food was included in the tariff and it was a fixed menu in semi buffet format as they were serving few items like hot chapati bread and tea/coffee on tables. There were no restaurants near by and it was only available option for food. The food was traditional Gujarati or Kutchi dishes for lunch & dinner but for breakfast, they also served traditional food as well as bread – butter – jam – fruits etc. They serve only veg food in the resort, it was tasty, nonspicy and fresh. There was no room service available for food. They don’t serve liquor and also don’t allow drinking because Gujarat is a dry state.

Every evening local artists come and perform folk music program in open space of resort. We enjoyed the music program while sitting & lying on “charpoy”. It was a very relaxing experience. Singers Shaam-e-Sarhad Village Resort Kutch Gujarat

There were a couple of stalls in resort compound selling handicraft items made by local people. I told them that I wanted to visit local artisans and they guided us to the nearby Rabari colony in the village. This artisan colony was few minutes drive from the resort. I bought some handmade items and handicrafts directly from the artisans. Stalls Shaam-e-Sarhad Village Resort Kutch Gujarat

The resort served us as our base to visit the Great Rann of Kutch, Kala dungar, India bridge, Dhordo village, Hodka and Banni Villages. There was no traffic on the roads and at times we drove 5 to 7 km with seeing another vehicle.

The staff was helpful and efficient.

    1. Yes, very interesting place. They remain open as it run by locals but they told me that no one comes in summer months. The resort got a major boost after Gujarat tourism used them in one of ad they shot with AB.
